South Carolina's public access point is VINE through VINELink. VINE stands for Victim Information and Notification Everyday. Participating agencies send custody events to the service. Charleston County and South Carolina state-custody events can be relevant, but no current official list naming every agency feed was found. Do not assume that every county jail or every old booking appears.
VINE is strongest before or near a custody change. A user can follow a specific record and request notice of available events, including release when the option appears. It may also report a transfer. That distinction matters. A transfer out of Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center is a county release, yet the person may enter SCDC, another jail, ICE, or federal custody instead of returning to the community.
The service is not the official long-term record. For Charleston County jail custody, confirm through the sheriff's inmate portal with Show Past Bookings. For a state prisoner, use SCDC's released list. Those source records can show whether VINE's event matches the right custody system.
Search Charleston County VINE
Use a booking or offender number when it is known. It separates people who share a name and reduces the chance of opening the wrong record. When only a name is available, try the full legal spelling first, then reasonable variants. Compare all identifiers that VINE supplies before selecting a result.
- Open VINELink and choose South Carolina.
- Select the custody or offender search offered on the state page.
- Narrow to Charleston County or the responsible facility when that option appears.
- Enter the first and last name, or use the booking or offender ID.
- Compare available identifiers and open only the matching record.
- Read the custody status, custody location, and event date together.
If several names match, do not guess from age or name alone. Compare the agency, identifier, physical details, and known booking facts. The sheriff's past-booking record can supply an inmate number and booking date. SCDC uses its own identifying numbers. Note: A custody location can change before every connected system updates, so record the time and source of each check.

Register Charleston Release Alerts
Registration begins inside the correct person's record. Select only events and delivery methods that the live system offers. Telephone, email, text, or app delivery may appear, but options can vary by agency and record. Save the confirmation so the registration can be checked later.
- Open the verified person's record and choose Register for notifications, Get notified, or the equivalent action.
- Select the custody events offered, including release when available. A transfer alert may be separate.
- Choose from the telephone, email, text, or app methods actually displayed.
- Enter the contact information and complete the verification steps.
- If telephone setup requests a four-digit PIN, create one that can be recalled during the automated call.
- Save confirmation and update the settings when contact information changes.
During an automated phone call, entering the PIN acknowledges receipt and stops repeat calls for that event. The PIN instruction is conditional. Current research did not verify a South Carolina web rule requiring a PIN for email, so do not apply the phone process to every delivery method.
A notice is a prompt to verify. It can arrive after an event or reflect data as supplied by the reporting agency. If the notice says transfer, check the destination rather than assuming release to the community.
Confirm Charleston VINE Releases
A no-result is ambiguous. It can reflect a spelling or identifier mismatch, a posting delay, an aged record, a different custody system, or an agency feed that does not participate. Charleston's official past-booking portal is the first confirmation route for SACDC. Enable Show Past Bookings, match the inmate number and booking date, then read Booking Status and Release Date. For state custody, use the SCDC Released Inmate List, which can be searched by release-date range and county.
A BOP prisoner is checked through the federal inmate locator and the federal court docket. A person held for U.S. Marshals may never have a useful BOP record before case disposition. ICE uses its Online Detainee Locator System. None of those channels should be replaced with a Charleston County VINE search.
When an exact county release time, type, or receiving agency matters, ask CCSO Records for the booking-and-release record. For SCDC, use Inmate Records or a focused SCDC records request. VINE remains the alert layer, while the holding agency supplies the authoritative custody record.
Charleston Registry Is Separate
The SLED Public Sex Offender Registry is not VINE. After accepting its conditions and verification, users may run a name or geographic search. A qualifying public record can show a photograph, aliases, reported address or map location, and covered offenses. SLED also offers its own community-notification process.
That registry applies only to people legally required to register. It cannot answer whether an ordinary Charleston County detainee left SACDC. Some details are reported by registrants before independent verification, and the data can change. Use it only for the status it was built to report.
Match Charleston Custody Systems
Release verification starts with the custody owner. SACDC is an adult county jail. SCDC runs state prisons. Federal and immigration agencies maintain separate records. A single person can pass through more than one system, and each event may have a different identifier and date.

Keep a record of the names, identifiers, dates, and agencies compared. This makes a follow-up call or records request far more precise and helps separate a true no-result from a search made in the wrong system.
Follow Up Charleston VINE Notices
A useful alert file includes the person's exact name, booking or offender number, reporting agency, event label, event date, and the time the notice arrived. Keep the original confirmation as well. Those details let CCSO or SCDC staff distinguish the custody event from another booking with a similar name. They also show whether the notice described release, transfer, or a different change.
If an alert arrives but the source record has not updated, wait for the agency's ordinary posting process and check again. Charleston County intentionally delays web and app booking information for a short, unpublished interval. That county practice can affect what is visible around a recent event. It does not establish VINE's own update schedule, which was not published in the reviewed material.
A call to SACDC should ask a narrow custody question. Provide the inmate number and event date, then ask whether the person remains in county custody or was released to another agency. For SCDC, give the SCDC ID and ask Inmate Records to confirm the state event. Exact release documents may require a records request. Keep notification registration active until the needed event is confirmed, and update telephone or email details when they change.
Charleston VINE Records Fallback
When VINE and the source portal disagree, begin with the record created by the agency that held the person. The official Charleston County inmate portal accepts name, inmate number, booking dates, and arrest dates. Turn on Show Past Bookings. A matching released record can show Booking Status, Release Date, Charge Details, Past Bookings, and a booking photograph. The portal is a named-person search, not a permanent release log.
If the portal still does not answer the question, call SACDC at 843-529-7300 and ask whether routine Records access can confirm the event. A focused written request should identify the full name, inmate number if known, and approximate booking date. Ask for the actual release date and time, release type or reason, and receiving agency or destination if those fields are maintained and public. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, exempt, or court-restricted material may not be released.
For SCDC, include the person's name, SCDC ID or SID, release range, and the exact discharge fields sought. The state released list can provide the actual Release Date and Release Type for a former state prisoner. It does not document a Charleston County bond release. Matching the requested record to the custody owner keeps a VINE delay or no-result from sending the search into the wrong agency.
